Your bed does not have to define your bedroom.

Bedroom decor example by Studio Nineteen Co.

The bedroom can be a really interesting space for a lot of people, in a lot of different ways. For some people it’s just a space to sleep, for others it can act as an escape room from the rest of the chaos in the world. When you sit down and think about it, you spend most of your time in your bedroom; even if you are sleeping during that time!

When you are looking at a bedroom remodel, the obvious place to start is the bed. Let’s change that. I believe that your bedroom design and decor should start with a piece that you love; some art or a gorgeous area rug. Find something you can’t stop looking at and want to be in your space everyday; start from there. Starting the design like this allows for the room to be more than just your bedroom; it can become that space you crave time in and look forward to being there because you love every aspect of it.

Once you have your key piece, the rest will come together perfectly. Be sure to pick a bed frame that adds interest but works for your needs. For example, if you like to read sitting up in bed, a wooden headboard might not be the most comfortable for you so you should opt for an upholstered style instead. Another great thing to look for in a bed frame is additional storage if you need it in your space. We are finding so many options with hidden drawers that could be great for additional clothing or linen storage! Be creative with your choices, but always be functional as well.

I love mixing wooden dressers with upholstered headboards and vintage rugs, or a wooden bed frame with black nightstands and neutral yet grounding linens tousled on a down-filled duvet. Having the right combination of tones, materials and textures to compliment and accentuate your key piece makes the whole room come to life and feel finished.

Finishing off the space with photos of your loved ones or a beautiful vase with faux branches is a great way to add your personal style and life into the room.

Remember, you deserve to love every space in your home. This is your sign that your bed does not have to be the focus of your bedroom.
